Week 5
Lab1
I chose the phrase Creative Web Design. I used a text layer mask on a very out of focus picture of the big shot that was taken recently on a trip to vegas, the vibrant colours contrast well with the plain background and make the word Creative stand out. I kept the typeface simple as the pattern created is statement enough for the word.
Lab 2
I chose to illustrate the word Love. I used a red background which symbolises passion. I repeated the word in the shape of a love heart to create the O in the main word for a bit of extra oomph as well as to symbolise no beginning and no end.

This week I have added some colour, made some Typographic choices and removed the background pattern so not to overload the site. I also removed my palm tree from the banner as it wasn't serving any purpose and was just making the screen a bit more cluttered. My choice of lettering was Pirate inspired.
My colour choice was driven by the carribean feel of the site, although I have kept it on a natural feel. Originally I was going to go with a compimentary brown for the blues in the banner but I found a great tool where you put in one colour and it gives you compimentarys, split, monochrome, triadic etc choices. This helped me see that the complementary brown I was going to use was just a little dull, particularly for this personal site where I dont have an corporate boundaries and could chose to have a bit more fun. As a result I chose a triadic colour scheme of blues, greens and purples which added a little more warmth through the use of a deep purple for the lettering.
